Our approach: intersectional feminism
The intervention at CALACS West Island is based on the feminist intersectional approach
Intersectionality is a tool for understanding how:
- On the individual level: intersectionality reminds us that social identities (e.g. gender, race*, class) do not add up, but rather, they intersect and interact, creating unique experiences of discrimination and privilege. These experiences take place in the context of various systems of oppression.
- On the systemic level: intersectionality teaches us that systems of oppressions are interconnected, and thus influence and reinforce each other.
Our intervention protocol
Our intervention protocol explains intersectionality in more detail, its foundations in Black feminist thought and the important concepts to remember. It describes the principles and tools of intervention at the CALACS, the nature of the services we provide, the rules of the organization, and our complaint system
