Our society is filled with myths and beliefs about sexual assault. These false beliefs are aimed at both the victims and the assailants. These strong misconceptions tend to both attribute the responsibility of the assault to the victim and justify the behaviour of the assailant.

Since these false beliefs are ubiquitous, it is not unusual for the victim to question herself about her trauma, which increases her psychological suffering, tainting her with guilt, shame and unfounded blame.
